{before you even think about it... no...}
today's blog inspiration is brought to you by one of my good friend's BIG SURPRISE! out of all my [college best friends], katie is the first to break the baby news. you can check out her surprise here. she shared the new on monday. OH BABY! i am so excited for her and her husband jeff. however, i was completely surprised by one thing: they aren't finding out the sex of the baby. although i know that by doing this, it is one of the few joyous surprises in life not only for the expecting couple but for all of the family and friends as well....but however do you plan? i am a planner. i love to plan. {adam may argue with me on this one because when it comes to clothing and preparing for the weather, i am terrible...hey, a girl's gotta look cute right?!) anyway on her blog, katie said she's expecting a lot of yellow... and after hearing that, i was immediately on board...i LOVE yellow! yellow is such a great color and so many fabulous things are yellow- sunflowers, sunshine, blonde hair, squash, labradors [cooper], gold, lemons, daisies, rubber duckies, bumble bees, butterflies, [yellow] diamonds, bananas, broccoli-cheddar soup...it's just a happy color. so i started thinking, what if you had to decorate a baby room in a gender-neutral palette? i did some searching and came across a ton of cute baby-perfect, gender-neutral looks.
{check out my first attempt at an olioboard}
i'd cover the walls in grasscloth to add texture.
my friend emily turned me on to dash and albert rugs, and i would certainly choose this
charcoal gray and white striped.
bold touches of yellow along with a neutral gray would be brought in through the furniture and linens.
a white leather pouf for cuddling and a white rocker for rocking the little one to sleep would be a necessity.
i love this white flower-like hanging light from ikea.
curtains with pom-pom trim from anthropologie and etsy art inspired by the "keep calm and carry on" prints, and other animal inspired decor are a must.
and once the baby is born, splashes of salmon {for girl} or turquoise {for boy} could be added to amp up the color scheme.
