this posting is l o n g overdue. and i will have to say that "the hangout" was a blast! a while ago we had planned a mountain trip with some good friends and last weekend, we enjoyed the beautiful highlands, nc.
on the way up, it even snowed! it was the first snow of the season. i also brought back memories for both of us.
we started out the trip on friday at noon. and of course i took photos the whole way up there.
sadly, we missed "peak" for the leaves, as most of them had already fallen. i spotted this lone red tree in the midst of the evergreens.
couldn't pass the dillard house with out thinking of delicious food. if you plan on going there, you must fast for at least 3 days. either that or plan on wearing a pair of sweatpants with an elastic waist.
adam doing what he does best...reading his football highlights on his phone while driving. he's surprisingly really good at it. okay moms, don't freak out... he's still safe!
soon after the dillard house, as we turned onto the moutain road to head to highlands, it started snowing!
it snowed the whole way to the house.
the lindell hangout was an amazing house! not only was it perfect for the 4 couples who went, we could have had 20 more people with us and would have never been cramped. it was H U G E!
the front door was beautiful, but would never stay closed. we'd feel drafts of cold air every now and then, only to discover the door wide open. ghost? nah.
the living room was the place to be during the day.
one of the many outdoor courtyards.
the porch that was suspended over the cliff. no lie.
the view. whiteside mountain.
when we arrived, leslie was in "her office". this photo doesn't show the view very well, but if this was my office, i would be caught daydreaming often.there was some really beautiful art in the house, including this one located in the master bath. they are real {dead} butterflies behind glass. the colors were so vibrant.
master suite.
had it been 10 degrees warmer, i would have been on that hammock.
our room. it was periwinkle.
my favorite room in the whole house. why? it had a bird theme. the custom curtains and bed skirts had an adorable feather fabric...and i just adored the old iron beds.
i used to have a really neat old window that i used for a photo display in college. when we moved me home, one of the glass panes broke. had i seen this piece of art before that happened, i would have kept it to copy this! i still may try to steal the idea. this artist painted a panel behind the glass and draped burlap behind the glass. then, they created a nest out of plaster and sculpted little birdies. too amazing for words.
saturday morning when we woke up, it was bright and beautiful...and it had snowed more!
leslie had inspired us to go on a hike. there was a trail right down the street from our house.
the views were amazing from the top.
the girls. {before showers, don't judge}
4,930 feet!
after the hike we all got ready to hit the downtown highlands area for lunch and shopping!
the sunset.
the boys.
the girls.
due to the football schedule on the tv, we decided to cook in on saturday night. it was a team effort including leslie's cornbread. her recipe called for milk and the closest thing we had to milk was coffee creamer. if you look close, you can see all of the small creamers she is pouring into the measuring cup. surprisingly, it turned out really good!
i made my white chicken chili. {i'll post the recipe soon}.
even the boys helped clean up.
during the day you would find us in the living room, but at night, we hit the game room! ping pong and pool tournaments were constantly going.
adam was great at both!
on the way home, sunday, we had to stop at the athens y camp for boys. when adam was a little {side spike-carpenter jorts-mickey mouse shirt-wearing} boy, he attended the camp.
thank goodness he has grown out of those styles.
we also stopped at tallulah gorge. one of my many stops that we made when i was growing up.
we had an amazing weekend and all decided that it's a must to make it an annual event!
